Inside Fleet

The Sunset series inside fleets are the training fleets.

Diamond Fleet (Formally Port Fleet)
Some Things to Remember

  • Check for any messages on the Diamond Board as soon as you get down to the waterfront.

  • All Cadets must sign on at the signing on sheet and make sure your parents do as well.
  • Briefing is at 6.30 at the DSC- you must be there to find out what you will be doing during the evening.

  • Be changed and rigged for the briefing and make sure your boat checks are done.
  • It is best to leave your boat in its space until after the briefing but if you have to move it make sure it will not be in anyone else’s way.

  • Take your boat down to the hard when the Beach Team have called for your fleet – NOT BEFORE.
  • Collect your tally band when you are asked to - NOT BEFORE

  • Make sure you take the right numbered band.
  • Stay off any of the big trolleys and other things around on the hard whilst you are waiting to go afloat.

  • Be ready to launch as soon as it is Diamond Fleet’s turn to go.
  • Remember to say thank you for the help you have been given.

The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by children up to the age of 15. Nowadays boats are usually made of Fiberglass, although wooden boats are still built.

It is one of the most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class and many more built but never registered.

At Dabchicks we typically have around 70 Optimist sailors competing and training in the various fleets.

Children start their training with the inside fleets and progress to racing in the outside fleets.

Lets have some fun!
