Making Waves: A Weekend on the Water with the Powerboat School
Published 14:58 on 1 May 2026
The sun made a guest appearance, the tides were not quite in our favour, but all made for a fantastic weekend! On April 25th and 26th, our latest cohort of aspiring helms took to the water for the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course.
It was a packed couple of days, blending high-speed thrills with the finesse of close-quarters handling. From coming alongside the pontoon to the art of the perfect man-overboard recovery, our students handled every challenge with steady hands and plenty of smiles.
Weekend Highlights
- Precision Parking: Theres nothing quite like the satisfaction of a "soft landing" against the dock after mastering those tricky wind and tide offsets.
- The Need for Speed: Once out in the open water, everyone got a taste of planing speeds, learning how to trim the boat for a smooth ride and execute those exhilarating power turns.
- Chart Chat: We spent time with the charts, ensuring everyone knows their buoys from their beacons and passage plan to ensure they know how to get home safely before the sun goes down.
A Huge Congratulations!
We are thrilled to announce that all participants successfully earned their certificates. Whether youre planning to use your new skills for safety boat duties, zipping out to a mooring, or just enjoying a day of coastal exploration, youre now officially ready to take the helm.
Interested in joining the next one? If youve been meaning to get your powerboat qualification. Keep an eye on the club website for upcoming course dates. Whether you're a seasoned sailor looking to diversify or a complete novice, theres no better way to spend a weekend than learning the ropes (and the throttles) with us.
