Powerboat Training Centre

The Powerboat Training Centre is RYA recognised which is fully integrated into the Dabchicks Sailing Club. All successful candidates will be issued with a Coastal endorsed RYA certificate of competence*. (*excludes the DSC Coxswains Course)

The instructors are all members of the DSC, fully equipped and insured for the courses given and the boats used are owned by the club.

DSC Coxswains Course (1 day)

A power boat course for DSC Club members to enable them to drive a support boat for any Dabchicks event. All participants will be expected to volunteer for a minimum of one weekend event in the forthcoming sailing season. This includes boat handling, mooring, anchoring and righting of capsized dinghies, involving both theory and practical sessions on the water.

Requirements: No previous boating experience required. Minimum age 16 years.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 (2 days)

Requirements: No previous boating experience required. Junior: minimum age 15 years (qualification subject to adult supervision endorsement until 16).

Duration: Two days

Maximum group size: 6

Basic powerboat qualification with coastal endorsement widely recognised as a level of competence dealing more comprehensively with basic boat handling skills, safety, an introduction to charts and pilotage. RYA 2 is the normal minimum boat handling qualification requirement for organisations / clubs.

RYA 2 Direct Assessment

Cost: £75

Requirements: Candidates must experienced powerboat helms and are able to demonstrate a good understanding of the RYA 2 syllabus.

Duration: Two hours (approx.)

Achievement of RYA 2 qualification without undertaking the training course. Involving demonstration of practical skills and passing a written examination.
