What a Weekend the Wayfarers Were!

Dabchicks Sailing Club played host to The Wayfarer Nationals which took place from Friday the 30th June to Sunday the 2nd of July.

The event saw 27 Wayfarers, from as far as the United States and Ireland, sail out into the Blackwater (after a minor delay for an Oyster Collection). The fleet completed 3 races-to-back in challenging conditions throughout the three days with several boats dropping out due to breakages, exhaustion or both. The BBQ and Fish and Chip supper on Friday and Saturday, evenings, liberally washed down with local ales, were excellent reward for the tiring competitors.

The increasing winds on the final day made for some very exciting racing with the overall winner being declared as Andrew and Tom Wilson in their aptly named “Restless”. The legendary master sailor Michael MacNamara was presented with a cake to celebrate his imminent 80th birthday.

Congratulations to Will Powell who gained third overall helming a boat from Tollesbury SC – other members involved in crewing local boats included Bryan and Will Sargeant as well as Sam Grout. Thank you to Tim Wood and our newest member Mike Davis for taking some awesome action shots.
