Boxing Day 2022 was one to remember.
Race Report, by Poppy Lowe
The Boxing Day Race commenced on 26th December, as it has been traditional for many years. A Pursuit Race which each class of boats starts at each time, first warning for the Mirror class @12:50 and last call at 13:18 for the RS700. There were more than 16 entries with the the MFOBs joining. It was a great turn out.
The forecast for the day was a Westerly wind of 12mph and a cold ocean.
When out on the water, first boat around the only ‘official’ mark was David and Elizabeth Willey in the Comet Duo. It was then a close reach down Salcott to the ‘unofficial’ mark boat then down little ditch where most of us found out the hard way and hit the marshes which we couldn’t see, now we know why we go around! It was then up Thorn Fleet, down to Ray to use the lovely expensive looking boat as a mark, luckily no one hit it. Then it was back down around a ‘Wendy’s mark (another boat) and up Strood to the last boat and repeat until14:00hrs. When the finish time came, it was get to shore , pack up and go for some mulled wine and mince pies in the galley, served by our wonderful volunteers. The Prize Giving was presented by Will Sargeant, our new Dinghy Captain. Thank you Will Powell for being Dinghy Captain before.
But most of all, thank you to all of the Safety & Race Box volunteers who made it possible.
